Wedding bands
What is a wedding without wedding bands? Wedding bands symbolize the unity of man and woman as husband and wife and since these rings are supposed to be worn by the couple as a sign of their bond, choosing the right kind of wedding bands for this symbolism rests solely in the hands of the couple themselves.
Wedding bands often come in identically designed pairs, although current designs may have a different design for the male and the female. The common custom of exchanging wedding bands during the wedding ceremony is said to symbolize the couple’s commitment to the union and is supposed to promote fidelity. The person can be easily ascertained as married due to the placement of the ring on the fourth finger of either the left or the right hand, depending upon which country the person comes from. This common knowledge of the placement of these wedding bands and the wearing of these symbolic rings will essentially show people that a person is indeed married and is loyal to the marriage due to the wedding band on the designated finger.
Wedding bands come in numerous designs, material combinations and meanings. While the general meaning of a wedding band is fidelity, there are countries that adapt other meanings into their wedding ring designs. A certain wedding ring design that consists of three intertwined rings has a meaning for each different band. This can be created out of three different metals or three different colors of gold. The meaning associated with these intertwined rings are love, hope, and faith. The most common design that people often use for wedding rings or wedding bands is, however, the plain band. This can also be created out of any precious metal, like silver, gold or platinum, and engraved with the couple’s name and wedding date on the inside. The normal width of these wedding bands usually has the wife wearing a thinner version of the husband’s wider wedding band.
Wedding bands may also have intricate designs on them, or precious stones embedded in the design. Some people have wedding bands with diamonds, zircons or other precious and semi-precious stones in them. There are also wedding bands that come in a puzzle ring form, a Celtic knot design and a chain design, each one having a particular meaning attached to it. Finding the right design for your wedding bands is all a matter of taste and what kind of symbol you want your wedding bands to be.
